There are bullies but one of them turned into someone nice and stood up for his friend Hopper when the bullies call her Lung Pudding。 I liked that he stood up for her。 The main idea is finding out what's in a secret place and what's inside a diamond shaped secret passageway。 There are bullies but one of them turned into someone nice and stood up for his friend Hopper when the bullies call her Lung Pudding。 I liked that he stood up for her。 The main idea is finding out what's in a secret place and what's inside a diamond shaped secret passageway。 。。。more

This was super fun - great for an intro to coding for kids, but also good fun for geeky adults。 😁

This is a cute story of a girl who starts a new school and somehow makes friends with a boy。 They start to look into the mysterious numbers around the school building and they find a robot turtle and the mystery thickens。I like the story and the girl is cool。 It's going to be fun to continue reading the story。 This is a cute story of a girl who starts a new school and somehow makes friends with a boy。 They start to look into the mysterious numbers around the school building and they find a robot turtle and the mystery thickens。I like the story and the girl is cool。 It's going to be fun to continue reading the story。 。。。more

Not really sure how I feel about this book。 This is a shorter read, however it is strange。 This book is set up like a comic book。 The setting of this book is at Stately Academy。 Hopper and Eni who become friends realize that there are clues and puzzles around the school and they are determined to solve the mystery。 They use coding to discover the puzzles that are around the school。 Hopper is also a basketball player and relates basketball to "math in motion" with all the statistics that go on in Not really sure how I feel about this book。 This is a shorter read, however it is strange。 This book is set up like a comic book。 The setting of this book is at Stately Academy。 Hopper and Eni who become friends realize that there are clues and puzzles around the school and they are determined to solve the mystery。 They use coding to discover the puzzles that are around the school。 Hopper is also a basketball player and relates basketball to "math in motion" with all the statistics that go on in the game。 Overall this book is pretty decent and it is interesting how they brought math into it。 It is a very easy read because of the comic book setup。 Overall decent book。 。。。more

These books are SHORT! Could read through these in minutes! My students are LOVING THEM though! Illustrations are very well done too!

It’s a PBS version of a graphic novel。 A little heavy on the STEM emphasis, a little thin on plot。 Good for kids, though。

This graphic novel series will be on my "Maybe" shelf。 The series teaches the reader the basics of coding。 I myself actually learned a lot! This was cool。 A graphic novel properly infused with a whole load of coding。 I think this will go down a treat at school。 A mysterious new school, a turtle robot and a strange janitor。。。 whats the secret the school is hiding and can Hooper solve it? Yes for girl coders!

BTSYA / Teen Reader (17): Secret Coders is a fun educational read that has a strong computer programming foundation。 It is easy to see that a lot of time and care were put into the stylistic choices within the art。 he story has a number of engaging, diverse set of characters who are sure to keep younger readers interested。 Despite being rather short, Secret Coders manages to include character development。 Would it make a good gift> Find out here。 BTSYA / Teen Reader (17): Secret Coders is a fun educational read that has a strong computer programming foundation。 It is easy to see that a lot of time and care were put into the stylistic choices within the art。 he story has a number of engaging, diverse set of characters who are sure to keep younger readers interested。 Despite being rather short, Secret Coders manages to include character development。 Would it make a good gift> Find out here。 。。。more

Gene Luen Yang does not disappoint。My 9yo LOVED this entire series, looking forward to every library trip so we could pick up the next book in the series until it ended。 She asked me many questions about coding and binary and hex。 As an engineer who didn't learn this stuff until college, I loved her questions, and I was SO happy I could explain the subject matter to her and answer in detail as well。 Yay, STEAM-themed books! I was really surprised how interesting this was and how much learning about coding basics fit into a book I could read aloud to my four-year-old in about an hour。 (His older sisters keep reading and re-reading this whole set and he wanted in on the story。)

I was kind of surprised by how much I enjoyed this short graphic novel。 There is a mystery set in a creepy school with strange adults in charge。 There is also thoughtful coding activities and great gasp-worthy plot reveals。 This ends in a cliffhanger and I’m interested in the second volume!

Amanda Godley

A graphic novel by the author of American-born Chinese。 The goal of the book and series is to introduce upper elementary kids to computational thinking。 I would use it in ELA or computer science as an intro

This was a great book, especially for reluctant readers。 It has mystery, foreshadowing, and engages the reader。 I love it when I can learn something from a novel which I did。 I'm curious to find out what happens in the rest of the series。 This was a great book, especially for reluctant readers。 It has mystery, foreshadowing, and engages the reader。 I love it when I can learn something from a novel which I did。 I'm curious to find out what happens in the rest of the series。 。。。more

Some parts were about math and coding and I could learn from it。

Kelsey Matthews

Cute introduction to coding concepts。 Not the most compelling story (also not super interested in coding) but in graphic novel format, nicely done。

Christy Broderick

What an awesome introductory graphic novel that teaches children coding! If your child is interested in anything STEM related, get this book in their hands! I loved everything about this book and can’t wait to pick up the next one in the series 💻🕹➡️⬅️⬆️⬇️🔁🐦🐢📚

This is a fun, adventure graphic novel that teaches basics of computer programming。 (Really!) It explains math and science concepts with fun pictures, a twisting plot, and kids as the main characters。 My 11 year old loved it, but it was a little too advanced for the 7 year old。

The art is this book is beautiful。 Color changes on the pages help the reader understand the flash backs or flash forwards when wearing the pashmina。 The book is reviewed for grades 4 and higher。 I thought the story was scattered early on, it did get better towards the end。 Rating 3⭐️Previously reviewed Boxers and Saints by Gene Luen Yang, really liked those graphic novels。 This selection from Yang is for younger readers, grade 3 and older, and it is one of a series of books。 There are secrets to be discovered at Stately Academy。 Hopper is new to the school and she along with her friend Eni are sure there are mysterious things happening that everyone else is ignoring。 They set out to uncover whatever it is that awaits them。 For me this book was just okay, maybe the series gets better。 My rating 3 ⭐️ 。。。more

A funny, educational series that provides both a schoolyard adventure story and actual lessons on basic coding language。 It reads like a Nickelodeon cartoon, if Nicktoons were somewhat more concerned with the technological literacy of the next generation。 I would suggest getting this into the hands of video game or computer fans, especially if they are the type to be somewhat resistant to reading。

It’s a charming marriage of coding and graphic novels。 Newbie Hooper’s school is creepy。 Luckily she’s left wearing the collateral damage of Eni’s pudding missile。 They strike up an unlikely friendship cemented with curiosity and basketball。 They discover the secret to the four eyed birds, flee a deranged janitor and uncover a hidden tunnel。

Maryann

Trying to slip coding into a plot—but not that engaging to me。

Phoebe

Fun story that will get kids excited about math and logic。

This book is fine, but I'm just too far out of its age range to get much more than some light enjoyment out of it。 It's clearly meant for younger kids to get them interested in coding, and I think that's great! The thing is you really need to read the whole series。 These are very short books that don't really end but continue in the next book。 It is like a tv series where every episode is a cliffhanger。 Rainbow Resource has good prices if you are looking to get them all。 My kid is eight and absolutely loved the series。 We downloaded Logo and it was pretty cool to see him make the connections。 There is an educational aspect but the story is the focus。 Probably for children old enough to handle cartoon v The thing is you really need to read the whole series。 These are very short books that don't really end but continue in the next book。 It is like a tv series where every episode is a cliffhanger。 Rainbow Resource has good prices if you are looking to get them all。 My kid is eight and absolutely loved the series。 We downloaded Logo and it was pretty cool to see him make the connections。 There is an educational aspect but the story is the focus。 Probably for children old enough to handle cartoon violence and know better than to call someone a jerkface or dork, but there is nothing scary in the story other than the creepy black and green color used through out。 Highly recommended for kids interested in computers。 And if they start winking/blinking funny at you, just tell them you don't know binary code and maybe they will explain ;) 。。。more

This book uses 'coding' to make it look 'koool'。 Oh no! An evil umm。。。 'coder' has trapped us in a room! We must use our coding skills to escape! Oh no! You don't like me! That's what the book is like。 The whole time, I was thinking 'this book is so stupid, this book is so stupid' over and over。 Once, I put it down and ignored it for a while but then thought to myself, 'gee, maybe it will get better。' News Flash! It didn't。 I'm sad。 Just sad。 This book uses 'coding' to make it look 'koool'。 Oh no! An evil umm。。。 'coder' has trapped us in a room! We must use our coding skills to escape! Oh no!
